Energy Statistics

When I entered Government, I raised Ireland’s  target for electricity from renewables to 40% by 2020.

For 2010, Ireland has an interim target of 15% electricity from renewables, which has been reached.

My work as Energy Minister effectively doubled the amount of electricity from renewable energy in Ireland.

Beneath shows the growth of energy from wind, waves and ocean sources that resulted from the Green Party’s tenure in Government.

Communications Statistics

In 2007, there were 600,000 broadband subscribers in Ireland. Today, there are over 1.5 million. This is because of progressive communications policy that I delivered to encourage collaboration between, and competition amongst service providers.

Beneath graph shows the growth in broadband access in Ireland since 2007:

Green Jobs

Over 16,000 green jobs have been announced since the Green Party entered Government. These are in areas such as green ICT, waste management, manufacturing and renewable energy. Beneath shows a breakdown of the job announcements by sector. These figures can be taken as a conservative estimate.
