Continuing reduction in EU-wide roaming charges welcome

Dublin, 11th June 2010

The publication by ComReg of information showing how Irish consumers continue to benefit from reductions in mobile roaming prices, including reduced prices to make and receive calls, and to send texts while travelling in the EU is welcome.

“I am pleased to see that Irish mobile operators are clearly achieving a high level of compliance with the EU-wide Roaming Regulation, and I am even more pleased to note that still further price reductions are imminent. ComReg’s co-ordinating role in this area continues to deliver real value to consumers.”

On July 1st the cost of cost of making a call will reduce from 0.53 cent to 0.47 cent per minute (incl. VAT), the price of receiving a call will reduce from 0.23 cent to 0.18 cent per minute (incl. VAT) and calls to voicemail will be free.

ComReg has today also announced the availability of an interactive price comparison website www.callcosts.ie/roaming which provides consumers with detailed information about mobile roaming.
