Electricity Grid Progress

Dublin, 22nd April 2010

Eirgrid recently announced its progress on the upgrade to the national grid with creation of up to 300 new jobs over the next five years.

Ultimately, the grid must be built. While we have met our 15% target for renewables and reached second or third place in Europe in terms of integration of wind in our system – we are heading towards first place in this respect – we will not make progress unless we build our grid, to tap into the potential resources available to us.

The green jobs that are being delivered require that a smart, efficient electricity grid is in place. We need a transmission grid, not only to enable us to transmit wind power to different counties but also to create jobs in these counties.
